The Women's Guild of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis was formed in 1987 by a group of visionary women who pledged their support to a cure for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury. The commitment shared by the Guild goes beyond caring. They spearhead the Tree of Hope sculpture of memory and honor, an annual fundraising campaign to help fuel research.
Each year the Guild serves as one of the volunteer arms of the Royal Caribbean Classic in Key Biscayne, Florida and receives a significant contribution for their efforts.
The Guild also hosts several annual membership luncheons. The Member Bring A Member Luncheon was designed to recognize the Guild members and stimulate new interest for increased membership. Another luncheon, the Ann Bishop Spirit of Excellence Award is presented to individuals in South Florida who demonstrate outstanding contributions promoting independence, volunteerism, and benevolence towards others.
The Women's Guild compassion is backed by a desire to move the cure forward and they continue to do so, having raised $1.1 million for paralysis research to date.
